Who we are
Cazadero Performing Arts Family Camp began in 1977 as an extension of the renowned Cazadero Music Camp, with the goal of creating a space where families could come together to explore the visual and performing arts in an immersive, natural setting. Over the years, the camp has grown into a beloved annual tradition, attracting participants from diverse backgrounds who come from all over California (and the nation) to be in creative community.
In 2010, Cazadero Performing Arts Family Camp became it’s own nonprofit organization, ensuring its long-term sustainability and allowing it to expand its mission of fostering creativity and community for youth and their families for years to come. The camp continues to thrive, thanks to the generous support of donors and patrons who believe in the transformative power of the arts.
OUR VALUES
Artistry Our priority is to bring a transformative experience through high-quality arts and music instruction to generations of families in a natural setting offline. The creative arts that are taught at camp reflect cultures from around the world. We believe that creativity is the door to learning and personal resilience. We measure our success by the number of personal or artistic “firsts” at camp.
Diversity and Accessibility We strive to create an environment where people of any age, nationality, race or ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, size or disability feel welcomed and nurtured by our community. We work to overcome any barrier that prevents diverse newcomers from joining our Caz community. We strive to make camp more accessible each year with the belief that increased access to Caz will enrich the quality of life on earth.
Community and Family We celebrate the importance of family and embrace newcomers with open arms, believing that family is defined not just by biology or law but also by choice, mutual care and responsibility. We believe that it is crucial that children and youth at our camp feel and are safe, valued, seen, and heard. We aim to provide a cultural experience that can be adopted into family life throughout the year. It is vital that all members of our community feel safe and respected, so we do not tolerate violent, abusive, hurtful language or behavior.
Global Impact We believe that performing and fine arts work hand in hand to enrich people’s souls and provide them healthier lives as global citizens. We measure our success by the continued growth and engagement of our community and pride ourselves in how many campers we reach and the joy and comfort Caz brings them each year.
